ALTERNATIVES

    SonarQube alternatives: 7 tools compared

SonarQube is a respected code quality and code security platform, and many teams use it happily. People still look for something else, and the reasons are usually the same: the setup, the price model, the language fit, or who the tool is built for.

Setup comes first. Sonar’s docs recommend a CI integration and a scanner on your build machine, which suits a team with a pipeline more than a solo builder. Price is next. As of November 2026, SonarQube Cloud’s free tier covers private projects up to 50,000 lines of code, and paid Server editions are priced per year by lines of code with no public price list.

Audience matters too. If you built an app with an AI tool and are not a developer, a pipeline-based code platform may be more than you need. Below are seven options, with what each is best for and where each falls short. We also explain terms like exposed API keys as we go. LetMeCheck is our product, and we say so where it appears. Every price is from the vendor’s own site, with a date and a link.

Code quality and security in one dashboard, like SonarQube
    Codacy or DeepSource

    7 SonarQube alternatives

    1. 1. Semgrep

Semgrep is a code security platform that combines static analysis (SAST), dependency scanning, secrets scanning and malware protection. Its Community Edition is open source under the LGPL 2.1 licence. See also LetMeCheck vs Semgrep.

Best for: Developers and security teams who want security scanning in the pipeline, with an open-source engine to start from.

      STRENGTHS

      • Community Edition is open source and runs from the command line
      • Works in CI and in editors such as VS Code and JetBrains
      • Supports more than 30 programming languages in the Community Edition

      LIMITS

      • The Community Edition analyses within a single function or file, so it can miss problems that span files (per Semgrep’s own repository)
      • Secrets and supply chain scanning are not in the Community Edition
      • Aimed at developers, not at people who are new to security

Pricing: The Free Edition is $0 for up to 10 contributors. Teams starts from $30 a month per contributor for Code or Supply Chain, and $15 for Secrets. Enterprise is custom. source, as of November 2026

    2. 2. Snyk

Snyk is a commercial security platform. It covers static analysis of your code (Snyk Code), open-source dependencies, containers and infrastructure-as-code, and it now describes itself as a security layer for AI-generated code. See also LetMeCheck vs Snyk.

Best for: Engineering and security teams that want one vendor for code, dependencies and containers.

      STRENGTHS

      • Git integration with pull request checks
      • Plugins for common editors and a CLI for CI
      • Has a free plan

      LIMITS

      • Snyk Code has rules for hardcoded secrets but is not a standalone secrets scanner, according to Snyk’s docs
      • The free plan caps projects (5) and monthly Snyk Code tests, so larger codebases will need a paid plan
      • Aimed at engineering teams

Pricing: Free is $0 a month for individual developers and small teams (5 projects). Team starts at $25 a month for up to 10 developers. Enterprise is by quote. source, as of November 2026

    3. 3. GitHub code scanning (CodeQL)

GitHub code scanning finds security problems in your code using CodeQL. It runs as a GitHub Actions workflow. GitHub groups its paid security features under GitHub Code Security and GitHub Secret Protection.

Best for: Teams whose code already lives on GitHub, and open-source projects with public repositories.

      STRENGTHS

      • Free for public repositories
      • Built into GitHub, so there is no separate service to sign up for
      • CodeQL covers C/C++, C#, Go, Java/Kotlin, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Ruby, Rust, Swift and GitHub Actions workflows

      LIMITS

      • Private repositories need a paid GitHub Code Security licence
      • Does not support languages outside its list
      • Uses GitHub Actions minutes, and is aimed at developers

Pricing: Free for public repositories. For private ones, GitHub Code Security is $30 per active committer a month, and GitHub Secret Protection is $19 per active committer a month. source, as of November 2026

    4. 4. Codacy

Codacy is a code quality and security platform. It reports on code quality, static analysis, dependencies, secrets and more, and it adds standards for AI-assisted coding. See also LetMeCheck vs Codacy.

      STRENGTHS

      • Connects to GitHub, GitLab and Bitbucket
      • IDE extensions, including for Cursor
      • Free forever for open-source projects

      LIMITS

      • Codacy’s pricing page gives different language counts in different places, so check your language is supported
      • Which scanners come with which plan is not clear from the page
      • Priced per developer who commits

Pricing: Developer is $0 (free forever). Team is from $18 per developer a month billed yearly, or $21 billed monthly. Business is custom. source, as of November 2026

    5. 5. DeepSource

DeepSource is a code review platform that combines static analysis with AI review of pull requests. In September 2026 it announced it is joining Harness, and it says existing workspaces keep working.

Best for: Growing teams that want automated review on every pull request, including code written with AI agents.

      STRENGTHS

      • Free for open-source projects
      • Covers code quality, security, secrets and dependencies
      • Works with GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket and Azure DevOps

      LIMITS

      • Now part of Harness, so the product may change over time
      • AI review is billed by usage on top of the seat price
      • Aimed at engineering teams

Pricing: Open Source is free. Team is $24 per user a month billed yearly, with AI review credits included and usage-based extras. Enterprise is custom. source, as of November 2026

    6. 6. VibeDoctor

VibeDoctor is a scanner for apps that an AI agent mostly wrote. You paste a GitHub repository or a website address, and it reports on security, code health and performance, with prompts you can paste into your coding agent.

Best for: People who built with AI tools and want security, performance and uptime checks in one place, or want to connect a coding agent to their results.

      STRENGTHS

      • Starts from a repo or website address
      • Offers an MCP connection for agents such as Claude Code
      • Includes uptime and performance monitoring

      LIMITS

      • Prices on its site are listed in Indian rupees
      • Its own pages give different numbers for how many areas it checks
      • An account is needed to save a project

Pricing: The Free Week plan is ₹0 for 1 project. Watch is ₹499 a month, Guard is ₹999 a month (list) and Shield is ₹1,999 a month (list). Prices are shown in rupees. source, as of November 2026

    7. 7. LetMeCheck

OUR PRODUCT: WE MAKE LETMECHECK, SO WEIGH THIS ENTRY WITH CARE

LetMeCheck is our product. It is a security check for apps built with Lovable, Bolt, Replit, Cursor and Claude Code. The quick check needs only a website address. The full check reads your GitHub repositories (read-only) for exposed keys, open database tables, risky packages and pages that skip the login check.

Best for: Founders, solo builders and freelancers who are not security experts and want plain-English results with fix prompts for their AI tool.

      STRENGTHS

      • A free quick check from a URL, with no sign-up
      • Plain-English issues rated Critical, High or Medium, with a fix prompt for your AI tool
      • Read-only GitHub access, and you pick the repositories
      • A hire-a-developer handoff, with a re-check after the fix

      LIMITS

      • Focused on security for AI-built apps, not on general code quality across many languages
      • Not built for CI pipelines or team governance
      • It helps you find and fix problems, and does not guarantee an app is secure

Pricing: Free is $0 (unlimited quick checks, a full report for 1 app, plain-English fix prompts). Pro is $19 a month (full GitHub checks, up to 5 apps). Team is $49 a month (up to 25 apps, shared reports). Prices in USD, and yearly saves 20%. See pricing. source, as of November 2026

    How to choose

    1. Who will read the results?

If the reader is a developer, a pipeline tool such as Semgrep, Snyk, GitHub code scanning, Codacy or DeepSource fits. If the reader is a founder or designer who built with an AI tool, look at LetMeCheck or VibeDoctor.

    2. Do you have a pipeline and a team?

If yes, choose a tool that plugs into your pull requests and CI. If no, a URL-first check gets you an answer without setting anything up.

    3. What worries you most?

For general code quality across many languages, stay with SonarQube or a similar platform. For exposed keys, open database tables and pages without a login check in an AI-built app, use a check made for that. You can also use both.

    Frequently asked questions

What is the best free alternative to SonarQube?

It depends on who you are. Semgrep’s Community Edition is open source, GitHub code scanning is free for public repositories, and LetMeCheck’s quick check is free for any live site. SonarQube itself also has a free Community Build and a Cloud free tier. All details are as of November 2026.

Is there a SonarQube alternative that needs no CI setup?

Yes. LetMeCheck’s quick check needs only your website address, and VibeDoctor lets you paste a repository or website address. Pipeline-based tools such as Semgrep, Snyk and Codacy are built around CI or pull requests.

Which alternative is best for AI-generated code?

Several vendors now talk about AI-written code, including Sonar, Snyk and DeepSource. If you built with Lovable, Bolt, Replit, Cursor or Claude Code and want plain-English results, LetMeCheck and VibeDoctor are made for that audience.

Is LetMeCheck a full SonarQube replacement?

No. LetMeCheck is a narrower security check for AI-built apps. It does not claim to cover code quality across many languages the way SonarQube does.

Why is LetMeCheck on this list?

It is our product, and we say so in the list. We placed it where it honestly fits, which is the last entry, because it is the narrowest tool here and is aimed at a different audience than most of the others.

Not sure where to start? Check your app first

Run the quick check on your live site in about a minute, with no sign-up. Connect GitHub (read-only) when you want the full check.
